Privacy Policy
In short
- What you type stays on your phone: typing, autocorrect, predictions, swipe, Telugu suggestions and emoji suggestions all run on the device.
- When you turn the mic key on, your voice is streamed to the speech engine you pick (Meta's Muse Voice Transcribe unless you change it) to be turned into text — or, with AI features off, to your phone's own on-device recognizer, which sends nothing.
- If you turn on a clean-up step (custom vocabulary, grammar, tone), the finished dictation text goes to the AI model you pick. Every clean-up step is off until you turn it on.
- The microphone is used only while the mic key is on. VoiceType keeps no audio.
- An account is optional. Signed in, your e-mail address, your prompt and personal dictionary, your typing corrections and the text you dictate are kept in your account on Google Firebase. Without an account, everything stays on your phone.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking, no selling of data. You can delete your account and its data from inside the app.
1. Who we are
VoiceType for Android is developed and operated by NextGenSystems AI Solutions LLC, a Texas limited liability company (“we”, “us”). Contact: sharathck3@gmail.com.
2. What you type
Typing, autocorrect, word and next-word suggestions, swipe typing, Telugu word suggestions and emoji suggestions run entirely on your phone using word lists bundled in the app. The keyboard does not send what you type anywhere and makes no network connection because of what you type. To get better at your writing it keeps, on your phone, the words you use most, the words you told it not to correct, and the corrections you make (“typing corrections”); signed in, your typing corrections are also kept in your account so they follow you to your other devices. You can review and delete them in Settings.
3. Voice dictation
Dictation is optional and starts only when you tap the mic key. Voice dictation is part of the VoiceType Monthly subscription (section 6). While it is on, the app records from your microphone and streams that audio over an encrypted connection to the speech engine you chose in Settings, which returns the text. When you tap Stop, recording stops.
- The speech engines are: Meta (Muse Voice Transcribe, the default), Microsoft (MAI-Transcribe), Google (Gemini), OpenAI and xAI (Grok), or your phone's on-device recognizer. Cloud engines are used only after you allow AI features in the app (Settings → Privacy & AI); with AI features off, only the on-device recognizer runs and nothing is sent.
- With Meta's engine, the app also sends the language codes it found in your Profile prompt (Telugu and English by default) so the service listens for those languages. The text of the prompt is never sent to a speech engine.
- VoiceType does not keep the audio and does not operate any server of its own. Each provider receives and processes the audio under its own terms and privacy policy, which we cannot control, so please do not dictate information you would not want a cloud speech service to process.
- Dictation is switched off in password fields.
- Before the first use, the app explains this and asks you to agree before it requests the microphone permission. You can withdraw at any time by removing the microphone permission in Android Settings or turning AI features off.
4. Clean-up of dictated text (optional)
Settings → Post-processing can fix your names and terms (custom vocabulary), tidy obvious grammar and change the tone. Every step is off until you turn it on. When a step is on and AI features are allowed, the text of each finished dictation, with your vocabulary, wording and prompt, is sent over an encrypted connection to the model you pick: Cerebras (Qwen, the default), Google (Gemini), OpenAI or Anthropic (Claude). If the model cannot be reached, your words are inserted as you said them. Explicit replacements you write into your vocabulary (“wrong → right”) are applied on the phone.
5. Emoji and GIF search
The emoji search runs on your phone. With “Smarter search” on and AI features allowed, the words you type into the emoji search box (not your other typing) may be sent to Google Gemini to suggest better emoji. GIF and sticker search, where available, sends your search words to KLIPY to return results; tapping a GIF tells KLIPY which one was shared.
6. Subscription
Typing is free. Voice dictation needs the VoiceType Monthly subscription, bought through Google Play. Google handles the payment; we never see your card or payment details. The app learns from Google Play only whether your subscription is active. See the Terms of Use.
7. Your account (optional)
You can use VoiceType without an account. If you create one or sign in, we use Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore, operated by Google LLC) to store:
- your e-mail address and a password, which Firebase keeps for signing you in (we never see the password);
- your Profile prompt, custom vocabulary, grammar wording and tone types, with their earlier versions, so they are the same in VoiceType on your other devices;
- your typing corrections;
- the text you dictate (as recognised, and after clean-up when that differs), with the time, the speech engine and which device it came from, so your dictation history is the same on your other devices;
- your answer to the AI-features question.
This data is used only to provide these features to you. It is encrypted in transit, readable only by your signed-in account under our database rules, and kept until you delete it. The same sign-in is shared with the developer's other apps (To-Do List, GenAI Studio).
8. What stays on your phone
Your prompt, personal dictionary, typing memory, settings and the text you dictate are always also saved in the app's private storage on your phone, so dictation and history work without a connection. Without an account they are saved only there. You can remove them by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling the app in Android Settings.
9. Deleting your account and data
In the app: Home → Account → Delete account. After you confirm with your password, the app deletes your account and everything VoiceType stored in it (your prompt and personal dictionary with their history, your typing corrections and your dictation history), and the copies on the phone. Deleting the account does not cancel a Google Play subscription: cancel it in the Play Store.
By e-mail: if you no longer have the app, write to sharathck3@gmail.com from the account's e-mail address with the subject “Delete my VoiceType account”. We delete the account and its data within 30 days and confirm by e-mail.
10. Permissions
- Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO) — only for dictation, only while the mic key is on.
- Internet — to reach the speech engine and clean-up model you picked, GIF search, Google Play and, if you are signed in, your account on Google Firebase.
- Google Play billing — to buy and check the subscription.
The app asks for nothing else: no contacts, location, camera, files or phone data.
11. What we do not do
- No advertising, analytics, crash-reporting or tracking SDKs.
- No selling or sharing of personal information with data brokers or advertisers.
- No use of what you type or dictate for any purpose other than giving it back to you.
12. Children
VoiceType is a general-purpose keyboard and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
13. Security
Audio, text and account data travel only over encrypted connections. Account data is protected by Firebase Authentication and database rules that let only your signed-in account read it. On the phone, everything is in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot read.
14. Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date above and, if the change is material, tell you in the app.
